Topic: The Future of Wind and Solar Energy: Driving Progress Toward the UN Sustainable Development Goals

Abstract: The accelerating transition toward renewable energy is central to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy, and SDG 13: Climate Action. Wind and solar power have emerged as the fastest-growing sources of electricity generation worldwide, driven by technological innovation, falling costs, and heightened environmental awareness. However, the path to a sustainable and resilient energy future requires more than rapid deployment, it demands strategic integration, supportive policies, and advanced operational management. This keynote will explore the evolving role of wind and solar energy in shaping global energy systems and their direct contribution to SDG achievement. It will examine recent breakthroughs in photovoltaic and wind turbine technologies, the growing synergy between renewable generation and energy storage, and the importance of smart grid integration for stability and reliability. The discussion will highlight policy and investment frameworks that accelerate adoption, as well as real-world case studies demonstrating the socio-economic benefits of large-scale renewable deployment. Special emphasis will be placed on the ASEAN region and Malaysia’s renewable energy roadmap, offering insights into how regional collaboration and localized solutions can address unique challenges such as grid intermittency, financing gaps, and rural energy access. By linking global trends with local opportunities, this presentation aims to inspire policymakers, industry leaders, and researchers to adopt innovative approaches that maximize the impact of wind and solar technologies in advancing sustainable development. Through a combination of technical expertise, data-driven analysis, and visionary outlook, the session will provide a roadmap for aligning renewable energy growth with the broader global sustainability agenda, ensuring that the clean energy transition not only mitigates climate change but also promotes inclusive economic growth and energy equity.

Dr. Dejun Yang, Associate Professor

School of Environment and Spatial Informatics, China University of Mining and Technology, Xuzhou, China

Biography: Dr. Dejun Yang is an Associate Professor at the School of Environment and Spatial Informatics, China University of Mining and Technology. He received his PhD in Civil Engineering from Zhejiang University in 2009. From 2009 to 2014, Postdoctoral of Environmental Science and Engineering at China University of Mining and Technology. From 2016 to 2017, Visiting Scholar, North Carolina State University, USA. His research focuses on the water environment and ecological water conservancy. He has published over 20 academic papers, among which 12 have been indexed by SCI/EI, and has authored one monograph.

Topic: The Variation Laws and Quantitative Characterization of Soil Physical and Chemical Properties in the Western Mining Area Environment

Abstract: The ecological environment in the semi-arid mining areas in the western region is fragile. The objects of surface ecological restoration projects are complex, with a large temporal and spatial span and strong systematization. Issues such as soil evaluation and prediction, change mechanisms and patterns, and quantitative characterization urgently need to be studied. This report mainly introduces the author's research on the variation patterns and quantitative characterization of soil physical and chemical properties in the junction area of Shanxi, Shaanxi and Inner Mongolia in the western region. The research results have certain theoretical significance and technical support for soil restoration and governance in similar areas in the western region.
